Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner

Selected a Gilmore Young Artist, an honor awarded every two years to “single out the most promising American pianists of the new generation,” Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner joined former recipients including Yuja Wang, Kirill Gerstein, and Jonathan Biss. Llewellyn performed solo at the White House for President Obama and at the Kennedy Center for his second term’s Presidential Inauguration concert. The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts awarded him the YoungArts gold medal for music.

Llewellyn also is committed to social action through music, and was the recipient of the Atlantic Council’s Young Global Citizen Award (fellow awardees included Robert De Niro and Prime Ministers Shimon Peres and Lee Kuan Yew). He performed with the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra in Baghdad, in a concert that raised funds to support the Children’s Cancer Hospital and celebrated World Day for Cultural Diversity. In a Pentagon performance, General Petraeus commended “his courageous humanitarian contributions through the arts…strengthening the ties that unite our nation's.”
