Kate Marlais studied Music with a Composition major at King’s College London. Having also studied classical singing, she went on to train in musical theatre at the Royal Academy of Music. As performer, credits include WAR HORSE (West End) and THE HUMAN COMEDY (Young Vic).
Kate is currently the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer at Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. She was composer on ABANDON (Lyric), for which she was nominated for a 2018 Stage Debut Award as ‘Best Composer’. She was recently made Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for her work in music.
Other recent work as composer includes choral arrangements for TESCO 100 YEARS event (Birmingham NEC; also Musical Co-Director). As Co-Writer/Co-Composer with Alex Young, she won the S & S Award for their musical HERE, in conjunction with Curve, Leicester and Mercury Musical Developments. Their new musical F**KED IN MARRAKECH was presented on the main stage at BEAM festival, Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Kate is the Musical Director for forthcoming LEAVE TO REMAIN at Lyric, with music by Kele Okereke (Bloc Party). She was Associate Musical Director for FATHERLAND (Lyric and Manchester Royal Exchange, as part of Manchester International Festival and LIFT), created with Frantic Assembly, Scott Graham, Karl Hyde (Underworld) and Simon Stephens.
