July Newsletter
Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to feature the wrap of our The Triple Threat Academy! This was a 3 month intensive online capacity building program in collaboration with Jakarta Performing Arts Community (JPAC), US Embassy Jakarta, American Voices and the Arts Envoy Initiative of U.S. Department of State. Designed for young aspiring Indonesian artists, this program aimed to connect professional U.S. Broadway artist to mentor and empower local artist to use their artistry to improve their livelihood, address social issues and shape a more inclusive society. As the title suggests, the program intended to train participants in three aspects of artist development: performance artistry, advocacy and entrepreneurship. TCP founder and director, Carla Canales, led this program since its initiation on March 23rd, along with Broadway artists Andrea Burns (In the Height, West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast) and Gabi Stapula (choreographer on The View, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon).
Among the many objectives of the program, one of the most challenging one was ‘expanding digital opportunities for cultural diplomacy in the post COVID-19 period”.
RESULTS FROM THE TRIPLE THREAT ACADEMY
Hear Her Song in Indonesia!
We are especially excited to feature some of the most impactful results of the Advocacy Focus. In this portion, the TTA focused on advocacy training by exploring the process of TCP’s own Hear Her Song initiative, meeting the program objective to “increase appreciation and empowerment of Indonesian culture” and “raising awareness, tackling social issues and advocating for positive transformative change”.
Throughout the program, participants were divided into three groups, and collectively wrote their own songs about their honorees. The honorees featured Dian Sastro, Butet Manurung, and Renitasari Adrian. This rendition of Hear Her Song was particularly inspiring because of the participants’ prolific creativity and efficient collaboration. Not only did the participants have to work together as a group to create a single composition, but they also managed their own arrangements, lyrics, mixing, video footage and translations. We are so excited to share the incredible results of this new round of Hear Her Song!
