Olivia Rodriguez
Olivia Rodriguez is a Los Angeles born, raised, and based singer/songwriter. Her musical education began in the womb with ‘Beatles for Babies,’ a CD of soft instrumental Beatles arrangements. When she came into the world she was quickly immersed in music from her father’s stereo blaring classical music to wake her up every morning, his classic rock mixes on every car ride, and his own playing and singing. She found her love of jazz through her grandfather and his stories of going to clubs to see acts such as Louis Prima and Ella Fitzgerald. Throughout her days at school she was in every choir and various theatre programs. Her training extended into musical theatre writing as well as performance. Inspired by the likes of Rita Moreno and Lin-Manuel Miranda, she plans to write musicals that showcase diversity and increase the opportunities for people of color. She is also deeply inspired by her Mexican heritage and hopes to showcase the beauty and determination of Latinx people. She frequently collaborates with the Mexican composer, Horacio Fernández-Vásquez, to intertwine traditional Latin music with contemporary styles. Olivia aspires to raise awareness and stir audiences to take action against inequalities in our society through her words and music. She does this through a folk rock lens under the name Livvy Medina, taking inspiration from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Hozier, Bob Dylan, and Linda Ronstadt. She joins the graduating class of 2021 at Berklee College of Music with her Bachelor’s Degree in Songwriting and will be releasing her debut EP in early 2022.
