From TCP Founder Carla Canales:

Dear TCP Community:

I hope this note finds you well and healthy!

I wanted to reach out in regards to the upcoming recording for Hear Her Song, the debut initiative The Canales ProjectHear Her Song is our most successful program thus far, honoring distinguished female leaders with newly commissioned songs from female composers, and utilizing the leaders' words as inspiration and lyrics for the new songs. Since initiating in 2017 the project has commissioned nearly 50 songs honoring leaders worldwide, in partnership with 11 organizations including United Nations Decade of WomenMalala FundMercy Beyond BordersHer Village Foundation (China), University of Wolverhampton (United Kingdom), San José Office of Cultural Affairs, and Berklee College of Music. Full details on participants, partners, and performances are available via the project's webpage here.

Following successful East and West Coast premieres, it became clear that the necessary next step is a commercial recording to promote the initiative, honorees, and composers involved, and most importantly create a platform for their impactful work, stories, and music. Despite current limitations on live performances, the project has seen live virtual performances this season presented by UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance and Alexandria’s Office of the Arts further promoting our efforts and allowing for women's leadership to be heard and sung at the highest possible platforms. A recording to accompany these performances is crucial for sustainable impact and longevity of the project.

Therefore in 2020 we embarked on producing a recording in collaboration with engineer Christopher Botta (OneBeat, Emily Wells), featuring 11 songs from by Katy PfafflHyeyoung KimHelen ParkJanet NohDina FanaiEliza HullFaye ChiaoRosabella GregoryMaria LandiSophia Lanuza, and Gwyneth Herbert. We aim to release the recording publicly in March 2021, aligning with Women’s History Month.

Therefore I kindly write to ask for assistance in supporting and bringing the recording to fruition. We are at a critical point in the potential and outreach of the project, and your support would be greatly appreciated in furthering the initiative. Please see below for levels of support along with the specific items they cover. Your support will help us to cover the costs of producing, marketing and packaging this recording, which we hope will elevate the voices of all of the incredible women involved.
